Good skin foods include fruits and vegetables, also known as complex carbohydrates. Bad ones include simple carbs.
Although the potato, pasta and bread industries might not like to hear about it, more and more research indicates that simple carbs are the cause of age-related disease. One research group concluded that they may also contribute to wrinkles by stimulating the production of Advanced Glycation End-products or AGEs.
While simple carbs are tasty and filling, they don't contain many vitamins. Fruits and vegetables contain a lot of them.
Some of the vitamins that are most important to the skin's health include the vitamins C, A and E. Vitamin C is a necessary co-factor for the production of strong collagen. Collagen, along with elastin and other components, is responsible for the skin's firmness.
It is also one of the elements that prevent transparency. When collagen levels are low, the tiny blood vessels beneath the skin's deepest layers can become visible. The result may be a bluish tinge, especially under the eyes.
Low levels of vitamin A and E are known to be a risk factor for acne and other conditions. Avocado is one of the good skin foods, because it contains vitamins A, C and E, as well as important proteins and fatty acids.

good-food-vitaminesProteins provide amino acids. Amino acids are the building blocks needed by the body to produce collagen, elastin, keratin and hyaluronic acid…all of the major skin components. If you are not getting enough protein in your diet, then your skin's condition will suffer. So will your muscles. Protein is essential for muscle-building and maintenance.

Magnesium, calcium and sodium are needed to maintain the skin's moisture balance. While you might think you need dairy products to get magnesium and calcium, there are plenty of vegetables that contain them. Wakame kelp is an example and it is also one of the good skin foods that can be applied directly.
I'm not saying you should mash up some wakame and avocado to use as a moisturizer, but some of the better moisturizers contain the ingredients. Wakame contains many nutrients and even a minor sun screening agent.
Avocado extracts have a high vitamin A content that helps to reverse wrinkles and other signs of aging. The only prescription wrinkle cream on the US market is actually a synthetic version of vitamin A.
Add some good skin foods to your daily diet and choose skincare products that contain the extracts. That advice will go a long way towards improving your appearance.
