13 Reasons People Become Clinically Depressed

Author: Dennis Simsek
Having 'clinical' depression can affect all aspects of a persons life, strangely enough during my days of dealing with depression waking up in the morning in itself was tiring, even after a good nights sleep. Our self esteem and self confidence takes a beating and that dark gloomy cloud that hangs over the heads of people that are going through depression, unfortunately can not be wished away or just float out of their lives somehow. First let's look at some reasons why people get themselves into a 'clinically' depressed state, and then look at what has worked for myself and others I work with to get back to feeling abundant again.
Reasons People Become Depressed:
Becoming Isolated - It's just natural for human beings to want to be around other people. If the option of meeting that significant other and starting a family is there we feel fulfilled, but if it's not an option, we at least want to feel the closeness that friends, co workers or certain social groups give us. The feeling of being isolated appears when we feel that we just don't belong, and this is a major reason people become depressed.
Medications - Let's remember that antidepressant medication and clinical depression in general is still very poorly understood. But if you are on some kind of antidepressant consider yourself one of the lucky ones if you don't experience side effects such as the one written on the back of my old prescription: "Fluoxetine may cause some people to be agitated, irritable or display other abnormal behaviors. It may also cause some people to have suicidal thoughts and tendencies or to become more depressed."
Chronic Stress - If you are dealing with chronic stress and anxiety it may be contributing to disrupting normal patterns of behavior, which can then lead you down the road of depression.
Candida Overgrowth - Toxins that become released into the bloodstream due to the Candida fungus in the human body can cause a multitude of symptoms, this can then lead to health anxiety and depression. As i've experienced in my own struggles in the past as well as seeing what has worked for others, curing your intestinal Candida can also cure your depression.
Childhood Abuse Or Hurt - A child who has been surrounded by abuse is much more likely to experience clinical depression at a later age then one who has not. In fact, the numbers show that 59% of physically abused children will become depressed later on in life. PTSD, learning difficulties and generalized anxiety are also part of the assortment of mental difficulties someone could experience later on in their lives.
Substance Abuse - It's estimated that 80% of people who have a chemical dependency or a certain addiction, also experience a co-occurring mental health problem such as generalized anxiety disorder or depression. Making the most of this one life that you are given, and firstly admitting that you need help is the first step to success, no one can truly create lasting change but yourself.
Loss of a Loved One - Grief is a normal emotion to the news of losing a loved one that commonly leads to major depressive disorder. Feelings of hopelessness and helplessness are all part of the grieving process.
Change - Sometimes when we lose that familiar feeling in our lives and get hit with a new job, a new marriage, a divorce, moving somewhere new, retirement etc, life can quickly become dissatisfying or dull. A seemingly positive change that has been planned for some time can bring unexpected changes that can bring about depressive episodes.
Nothing To Live For And Feeling Lost - There's nothing worse than having a stale life, something that gives you that jolt when you wake up in the morning is key for each one of us. This can come in the form of a new hobby, becoming educated about something you're interested in, taking part in a new social group, or maybe even teaching people something that you may be an expert at.
Financial Problems - Your money flow is the result of your continuous thoughts, that lead to your continuous emotions, that lead to your continuous actions. But isn't this true about everything in life? Yes, financial problems can certainly lead to depression but can be reversed for most people by applying what they already know.
Physical Illness - There is no doubt that clinical depression is a painful condition and often times occurs in association with a severe physical illness. Not only can physical illnesses lead to depression - the opposite occurs as well, which makes recognizing and treating depression all the more urgent.
The Media - With the average American exposing themselves to the media for just over 5 and a half hours per day, it's no surprise that this kind of exposure leads many into a state of depression. With the different messages being transmitted through the media that continuously reinforce aggression and other forms of risky behavior, it's no surprise that the media inspires anxiety and fear. Add to this the fact that media exposure at night time can disrupt sleeping patterns as well, and we have quite an interference in the development of our emotional and cognitive development.
Fear - It's easy to get into a pattern of negative thinking that breeds fear in us all, but the biggest obstacle that stood in my way during my 6 year struggle with an anxiety disorder was the fear of failure, which led me to live a confined and fearful life. What i've come to understand is to try something and fail, is not failure. But to not try at all, that's failure. So if the fear of failure is adding to your depressive state than understand that regret weighs more heavily on your shoulders then failure ever will.
Now That We Know What Could Be Contributing To Feeling Depressed, What can We Do About It?
The emotions that you are feeling are nothing more then a feedback mechanism. Feeling the emotion of fear for example means that the solution will come by stepping out of your feared comfort zone in a slow and systematic way. Feeling the emotion of isolation from others means that it's time you changed your approach to the situation that is isolating you from others, if financial problems are getting you down, become an entrepreneur and sell your expertise! For everything that is adding to the feelings of depression, there is an answer for, all you need to do is find the specific thing that is the cause, and listen to what kind of feedback you are getting. I've learned that the worst thing you can do is play the victim (as easy as it is to do so when depression strikes), as mentioned we get one shot at life and when the end comes I want you to look at your past and truly feel like you gave it your all each and everyday!

Gum Disease Links to Heart Disease and Stroke

Author: Cruvinel,A. R.
Several theories exist to explain the link between periodontal disease and heart disease. One theory is that oral bacteria can affect the heart when they enter the blood stream, attaching to fatty plaques in the coronary arteries (heart blood vessels) and contributing to clot formation. Coronary artery disease is characterized by a thickening of the walls of the coronary arteries due to the buildup of fatty proteins. Blood clots can obstruct normal blood flow, restricting the amount of nutrients and oxygen required for the heart to function properly. This may lead to heart attacks.
Another possibility is that the inflammation caused by periodontal disease increases plaque build up, which may contribute to swelling of the arteries.
Researchers have found that people with periodontal disease are almost twice as likely to suffer from coronary artery disease as those without periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease can also exacerbate existing heart conditions. Patients at risk for infective endocarditis may require antibiotics prior to dental procedures. Your periodontist and cardiologist will be able to determine if your heart condition requires use of antibiotics prior to dental procedures.
Stroke Additional studies have pointed to a relationship between periodontal disease and stroke. In one study that looked at the causal relationship of oral infection as a risk factor for stroke, people diagnosed with acute cerebrovascular ischemia were found more likely to have an oral infection when compared to those in the control group.
Periodontal (gum) diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are serious infections that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. The word periodontal literally means "around the tooth." Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection that affects the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease can affect one tooth or many teeth. It begins when the bacteria in plaque (the sticky, colorless film that constantly forms on your teeth) causes the gums to become inflamed.
Gingivitis
Gingivitis is the mildest form of periodontal disease. It causes the gums to become red, swollen, and bleed easily. There is usually little or no discomfort at this stage. Gingivitis is often caused by inadequate oral hygiene. Gingivitis is reversible with professional treatment and good oral home care.
Periodontitis
Untreated gingivitis can advance to periodontitis. With time, plaque can spread and grow below the gum line. Toxins produced by the bacteria in plaque irritate the gums. The toxins stimulate a chronic inflammatory response in which the body in essence turns on itself, and the tissues and bone that support the teeth are broken down and destroyed. Gums separate from the teeth, forming pockets (spaces between the teeth and gums) that become infected. As the disease progresses, the pockets deepen and more gum tissue and bone are destroyed. Often, this destructive process has very mild symptoms. Eventually, teeth can become loose and may have to be removed.
There are many forms of periodontitis. The most common ones include the following.
Agressive periodontitis occurs in patients who are otherwise clinically healthy. Common features include rapid attachment loss and bone destruction and familial aggregation. Chronic periodontitis results in inflammation within the supporting tissues of the teeth, progressive attachment and bone loss. This is the most frequently occurring form of periodontitis and is characterized by pocket formation and/or recession of the gingiva. It is prevalent in adults, but can occur at any age. Progression of attachment loss usually occurs slowly, but periods of rapid progression can occur. Periodontitis as a manifestation of systemic diseases often begins at a young age. Systemic conditions such as heart disease, respiratory disease, and diabetes are associated with this form of periodontitis. Necrotizing periodontal disease is an infection characterized by necrosis of gingival tissues, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. These lesions are most commonly observed in individuals with systemic conditions such as HIV infection, malnutrition and immunosuppression.

Seafood – Your Key to Good Health

Author: Xu Lixing
Many people from different parts of the world are becoming more aware of eating healthy food to maintain good health. This awareness could be a result of growing health concerns among the masses due to consumption of food that lacks proteins, vitamins and other such vital supplements for the human body. The hectic life we are living today leaves us with very less time to exercise, thus it becomes more important that we substitute this with eating healthy food. Though there are many different things that you could be part of your healthy daily diet, there is one thing that is fast becoming a preferred health food for many around the globe – Seafood. Many people have grown to realize the various health benefits that seafood has to offer. In this article, let us consider the health benefits of frozen seafood.
First and foremost, seafood is rich in Omega-3. There are plenty of health benefits that have been associated with Omega-3 and the list continues to grow. What are the benefits of Omega-3?
Omega-3 is a collection of fatty acids which include EPA and DHA. These are also said to be essential fatty acids as the human body does not produce them and thus it becomes essential that you get this from your food or other supplements. Omega-3 fatty acids aid in the building of fats in our body. Though fats have a bad reputation, they are still vital nutrients for the body.

Heart

Omega-3 fatty acids protect our cardiovascular system (heart) by helping lower cholesterol level. Cholesterol refers to wax like fats that accumulates in your arteries and blocks them thus increasing chances of a heart attack.
Omega-3 also reduces triglycerides which are unhealthy fats. A number of cardiovascular diseases are associated with the presence of high level of triglycerides.
Omega-3 also prevents formation of blood clots which can block an artery to the heart and cause a heart attack.
Omega-3 also helps in reducing blood pressure slightly, another factor associated with heart attacks.
Brain
Omega-3 helps improve memory. Studies show that it also helps in the learning process and makes the brain sharper. Students who have Omega-3 in their diet tend to do well in their academics and have less behavioural problems compared to their peers.
Omega-3 can also protect us from mood disorders and is also associated with improving the moods of people suffering from depression.
Omega-3 is a very vital nutrient required for babies. Babies need DHA for proper development of their brain.
Skin
Omeag-3 also helps fight dry and scaly skin. EPA present in Omega-3 helps in regulating oil production in the skin. This helps keep our skin hydrated and prevents it from drying and flaking.
Omega-3 also acts as an antioxidant by protecting our skin from damage. When our body is exposed to UV radiation, it generates harmful substances called free radicals, which causes cell damage and may lead to cancer or early aging.
Omega-3 is also good for your scalp and hair. Lack of these nutrients can cause dry and flaky scalp, your hair may lose its shine, and it may also cause excessive hair loss.
These are just a few benefits listed here that comes with consumption of Omega-3 and seafood is rich in this. To enjoy these and many more benefits ensure that you regularly include seafood in your diet. Eat healthy live happier!

cough-block-nose

Author: inspiringlife
What is Sinusitis?
Sinuses are air-filled cavities in the bones of your face. Lined with mucus membranes, these cavities open into your nasal cavities through small sinus openings. The sinus linings then produce a thick liquid called mucus which drains into the nose
When these membranes become swollen and inflamed, the condition is called sinusitis. Often, a lot of mucus is produced and this mucus can block the sinus openings. Sinusitis is a common condition with more than 24 million cases occurring in the United States annually.
Sinusitis can be acute (going on less than four weeks), subacute (4–8 weeks) or chronic (going on for 8 weeks or more). All three types of sinusitis have similar symptoms, and are thus often difficult to distinguish. Acute sinusitis is very common. Roughly ninety percent of adults have had sinusitis at some point in their life
What Causes Sinusitis?
  • Cold
  • Allergies
  • Bacterial and fungal infections
  • Blockage of the sinus openings
What Are The Symptoms?
  • A "heavy" head
  • Headache made worse by bending your head down or forward
  • Soreness around the eyes and cheeks.
  • What feels like toothache
  • Runny nose
  • Blocked nose
  • Post-nasal drip
  • Cough, especially at night
  • Sore throat
What Can You Do?
  • Treat your colds and allergies promptly.
  • Avoid heavily polluted air. At the same time, keep your home environment clean to prevent allergies.
  • Inhale steam from a basin of hot water.
  • Humidify your home if the air is dry.
  • Don't smoke.
  • Never use nasal decongestants for more than 3 days as they can worsen your symptoms.
  • Always complete your course of antibiotics.
  • Use oral or nasal decongestants before you fly or travel to high altitudes or swim in deep water.
  • See an ear, nose and throat specialist if you have frequent attacks of sinusitis.

Hot and Cold Cure:
Drinks like tea, chicken soup, a veggie or a fruit drink may save you a great deal from the allergies or sickness of winter season like cold and flu symptoms. Hot drinks losses congestion of the nasal and stimulates the flow of mucus and also they help in keeping your body hydrated.
Vitamin C Helps:
Fresh oranges or grapefruit may help your immune system to be boosted up. Take them in real form or make some juice to be served freshly in the breakfast, certainly you will get glowing skin as vitamin C rich food protects skin from any outer damage and cures the dryness.

It may seem like little kids, but being adults we often forget doing the basics and that only puts us in trouble when there is a season of viruses and infections. Take Care of your Bed:
Changing pillowcases and bed sheets quite often also saves you from infects and keep your winter health saved. It is quite common if two people share the bed and one is sick definitely, the viruses will contaminate the other one and thus changing your share of bed accessories will save you if your partner is sick.

The Positive and Negative Effects of Quitting Smoking

quit-smoking

Author: Jackie Winn
If you are actually considering stopping smoking then you should take into account the possible side effects, both positive and negative that you are likely to suffer.

The Positive Effects of Quitting Smoking:
Within just a few days of stopping smoking, you will notice marked improvements to your health. The biggest factor behind this is due to the oxygen levels in your bloodstream increasing together with improved lung function and a general growth in your generalised fitness levels.
You will almost certainly notice that your breathing is much improved and your lungs are functioning much freely than while you were still smoking. Your sense of smell and taste improve within hours of your last cigarette and take just a few days to return to their proper levels. The risk of a heart attack gets lower as each cigarette free day passes. Ceasing to smoke will also lower the risks of many problems with your circulation. If you have quit smoking your will also notice an increase in your stamina and within few weeks your stamina level will be normal. You will notice that you sleep much better than before and awaken fresh and revitalised.

The Negative Effects of Quitting Smoking:
Image via Wikipedia The negative side effects seem to come about as blood sugar levels start to fall. As you go through the procedure of quitting smoking your physical structure is forced adapt to the altered state of affairs. You can easily reduce the levels of this side effect by increasing your fluid intake, drinking a chilled glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice several times a day will help maintain your blood sugar levels. Smoking may likewise impair many of your body's vital organs therefore it will take time to recover once you quit. Some studies have suggested that by quitting smoking there is a chance that you are a slightly greater risk of being diagnosed with Mesothelioma, the treatment for this disease may be expensive and can not be completed without funding. Another down side to quitting is that you may experience feelings of snappishness, tenseness, sickness, and giddiness. The good news though is that all of these symptoms are short lived. When you first quit you may find you have trouble getting to sleep, or you may wake up during the night more often. It is possible you may have problems concentrating and suffer from minor constipation as well as a tickly "smokers cough". You may more susceptible to, common colds and ulcers. Obviously you will face the dreaded withdrawal symptoms, repeated urges to light a cigarette, inflated appetite, fidgetiness and depression. The best way to combat the majority of these effects is to take part in regular exercise; however it is always recommended that you consult with your own doctor before dramatically changing your lifestyle to achieve the best results.
Summary
Quitting the smoking habit is always going to be tough whatever method or system you choose. But the net results can be immense. You regain your health, you stop damaging your home, your family feel better, and you save a ton of money too!

Effective Ways to Stop Cigarette Addiction

Cigarette-Addiction

Author: Sally Anderson
In a year, there are many people suffer from different diseases and illnesses due to cigarette addiction. Although some people are aware of the negative impacts of smoking, they cannot totally quit this bad habit. At first, you might think it is next to impossible to avoid cigarette smoking. But come to think of it, if other people can do it, you can also do it. The process is not easy but if you will put effort into it and you will look at your long term health goals then it is achievable.

There are many effective ways on how to quit cigarettes. Some of these are the following:

1. Set Your Health Goals

Stress can be one of the main reasons why many people are into cigarette smoking. With these cigarettes containing nicotine and other ingredients that can be really addictive, the tendency is for people to be addicted to it. But once you are health conscious and once you know the actual negative impacts of cigarette smoking to your health, eventually you will realize that quitting this habit can make you better off.

2. Take One Step at A Time

It is a common thing for heavy smokers to find it really difficult to stop this habit. Apart from stress, many smokers use cigarette smoking for socialization. Quitting this habit does not require you to do is all at once. It gets extremely difficult to do that especially when your body is addicted and depended on nicotine. Doing this can only increase your yearning to smoke more. The best move is to take one step at a time. You can lessen the number of cigarette consumption depending on your pace. You will eventually come to a point where you will realize that you no longer need to smoke.

3. Self-Discipline

All of these things will require you one thing - self-discipline. We know that it is really not easy to finally stop smoking addiction. There are even some who find it extremely difficult to give up this habit. But if you have self-control and if you will really focus on your goal, it is possible to get rid of smoking addiction. Getting rid of your smoking habits will require you self-control. There is really a need to exert effort on your part.

You cannot quit cigarette addiction overnight. In fact, some people may take months or even years just to say no to cigarettes. It does not matter if you have a slow pace. What is important is that you are on your way to having a healthy lifestyle and you can avoid cigarettes.

Don’t Let Worry Destroy Your Health

worry-destroy-health

Author: Jimmy Allen
Worrying never gets good results. It is not good for our emotions, our health, our creative ability or for fulfilling our life. Still we worry that if we don't stress out and worry like everyone else, how will others judge us? Will we be perceived as crazy, not normal, not right or as having low morality?
Why does most of the world live life this way? It is almost inconceivable to think that you can stop worrying. But, we can!
Relaxation expert Sarah McCrum, of the Academy of Potential Education said recently that "we can learn the art of natural relaxation - relaxing our thoughts and our body and simply doing nothing other than breathing and smiling. We can then use our relaxation skills and choose not to worry when we don't want to, and honestly, you never really want to worry. It will take time because we can't shut worrying off after all those years of indulging in it. But we can become better at cutting it off and not spiraling into a black hole." Often, we worry because it is the norm and we don't realize that we have a choice.
We do have a choice if you are aware of it. It is your choice to make! Nobody can make you worry and nobody can stop you from not worrying.
Worry is actually pretty old fashioned. It belongs to our past and it is rapidly going out of style. It's not a creative lifestyle. It's not the lifestyle of the future. Just because most of the whole world worries, it doesn't mean that you have to! As human knowledge develops, human awareness and consciousness expands, and worrying will gradually disappear.
What is replacing worry now is relaxation - a deep trust in life itself. Your creative ability, your happiness, your health and your consciousness will grow the more you improve your ability to be relaxed. Your actions, your work, your responses to the world around you change when you know how to relax.
Often, when we are doing an activity we are either thinking about what we are doing or thinking about something completely different. We might even start to worry. We are too often in a state of unconscious tension, and are simply not physically and emotionally at peace. As a result, we block energy from entering and flowing through our body. And then our meridians aren't open and relaxed, so we get tired and find it difficult to experience joy.
When we learn how to relax and flow with life, we start to appreciate the world in a completely different way. When we are open, happy and experiencing natural relaxation, we can receive a higher source of life energy - quality energy that is light and vibrant, making us more positive and glowing.
Through proper relaxation training, we can learn how to not worry. We can learn how to breathe again like when we were a baby - relaxed and surrendered to life. We don't have to "do anything" but rather, just "be." Soon we learn that worry doesn't stem from external factors, but rather comes from inside ourselves. Then the more we become aware of it the more we can do to release that tension that we call worry.
To prevent worry from destroying your health and happiness, research a little and find a relaxation program with skilled experts to help you realize that there is a reason for everything, a cause and a remedy for everything. Every situation has a solution and we just have to find it. While we are searching we feel good and not so helpless, so we just keep on searching and we don't give up. The more knowledge we have, the more peace we have. We see possibilities, so we have a future. In this way, worry gradually and surely comes to its end.

Insomnia - causes and effects

insomnia-causes-effects

Author: Jacob Daniel
Insomnia is a disorder of sleep where one finds it uneasy to fall asleep for quite a long time. Insomnia is not only the inability to fall asleep but one also experiences a long sleeping disorder. Sleep is something that is more connected with the brain and thus any snag in brain causes sleep disorders more likely. Insomnia can arise at any age but it is more likely to affect the elderly or those who are caught up with busy lifestyles. People may suffer from insomnia for a short period say about 3 weeks or for a long time say for years. Insomnia has many adverse effects on human body and health like memory loss, irritability, depression that at the end leads to heart diseases like stroke.
There are mainly three categories into which this condition can be categorized they are primary, secondary and comorbid insomnia conditions. Primary insomnia is a condition where one has a sleep disorder, complains of protracted sleep or non-refreshing sleep. This condition is not linked to medical or psychiatric problems but if this disorder persists more than a month it is high time you take it serious and diagnose the reason behind this. There can a be a lot of things around you and by simplifying those you can certainly get a healthy sleep full life. Let us put an eye on the causes of insomnia in detail.
  • One of the common insomnia causes are chronic pain as people suffering from such pain tend to have less sleep or sleep disorders. Chronic pain such as continuing headache, back pain or some sort of joint syndrome are the main causes of sleeplessness and restless nights.
  • Insomnia in many cases is a symptom and a cause of people falling into depression largely. If you are having stress or are suffering from some emotional trauma, you are more likely to get depressed very easily as your emotional status is very weak and thus sleeplessness is the first thing to caught up the mind. Brain uses a single neurotransmitter for mood and sleep and thus both are connected and affected by each other.
  • If you are a chronic snorer then be alert, as studies state that snoring may be the symptom of an upcoming sleeplessness disorder. This is also a disorder, which is linked to sever issues like high blood pressure and heart diseases like heart stroke.
  • Jet lag may also be a reason for a short-term sleep disorder as crossing over the time zones often disturb brain functioning and causes you to have disturbed sleep. It takes up to three days to get over jet lag if you are affected once by it but if you travel over time zones often then it may become a chronic sleep issue and must be cured to not to have its effect on health.
  • If you are working in shifts that often keeps changing between nights and days, you will certainly suffer from insomnia as this directly affects brain. People who work in shifts have less serotonin hormone level, which is responsible for sleep and thus if you are having such issues better take care of your shift timings to avoid any long-term issues.
  • Hormonal changes like menstruation, pregnancy or menopause may also affect once sleeping syndrome as tender breasts, hot flashes, recurrent urination affects sleep patterns and causes insomnia and thus consulting your doctor and taking proper medication to avoid the side effects is must.
  • Prolonged diseases like asthma, heart failure, Parkinson's or any other neurological disease are also likely to affect sleep as there is a disturbance in the breathing patter that directly affects sleep and thus consulting your physician and taking proper medication and advice is must.
Some of the other unhealthy lifestyle habits like smoking, alcohol or taking drugs also affects sleep largely as all your internal hormones get affected. Taking a lot of medicines may also effect sleep specially if your bedtime dosage is high thus consulting a physician beforetime with all these issues is very important. If you adopt a little precaution and take relevant measures like leaving smoking, drinking and doing proper meditation, you can certainly cure the prolonged sleeplessness.

Tips for Restful Sleep

restful-sleep

Author: Mike Mulrooney
Do you find yourself feeling sluggish throughout the day because of lack of sleep? Or maybe you did sleep but you discover that you are still tired and worn out instead of feeling refreshed and rested. You are not alone, there are millions of people all over the world who toss and turn at night trying to get enough rest.
There may be a lot of factors that contribute to your lack of sleep. Perhaps you're stressed about an issue at work, or maybe some issues with your family and other relationship. You may not have any control about these factors that cause you to lose sleep, but don't worry, there are some things you can do have a more restful sleep.

Get comfortable in your sleep environment

It helps if you turn your bedroom into an ideal place for sleeping. If you've been sleeping on the same mattress for the past 10 years, it's time for you to get a new one. If your bedroom has large windows, consider buying curtains that are dark colored or made of heavy fabric. If you have a pet, don't let them sleep in your bedroom so they won't wake you up at night. And as much as possible, do not put a TV, or a computer inside your bedroom.

Set a schedule

You can help your body adjust to an internal clock if you make a habit of sleeping and getting up at the same time each day. Yes! Every day, even during weekends, or even holidays. This will get your body's sleep-wake cycle in its natural rhythm. Consistency is essential for this to be successful.

Limit your nap time

This may be the culprit to your restless sleep at night. Try to limit your nap time to less than an hour. If it doesn't make any difference, and you still find yourself waking up in the middle of the night, then avoid having naps altogether.

Have a pre-bedtime routine

Do something before going to bed that truly relaxes you. Why not take a soothing bath, or read a good book. Some people find that doing light exercise like stretching helps them to sleep faster. Find the activity that works for you.

Cut back on your caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant, and can cause sleep problems hours after you've ingested it. If you cannot avoid caffeine altogether, just limit your overall intake, and try not to drink caffeinated drinks after lunch, better yet, just get a decaf.

Exercise regularly

Including a daily physical activity in your daily routine may help you have a more restful and deep sleep. Just try not to exercise too close to your bedtime because you might feel more alert and energized.

Burning Eyes – Causes of Burning Eyes

burning-eyes

Author: peterhutch
Burning eyes affects about 30% of reading glasses wearers at one time or another. It is the commonest symptom of dry eyes. Most just suffer in silence, but there are simple steps that can be taken to help the condition.

Eye burning with discharge is burning, itching, or drainage from the eye of any substance other than tears. Lots of different things can make your eyes burn. Smoke, pollen, or a viral infection such as a cold or the flu can cause eyes to itch, burn, water, and redden. In these cases the burning and itching usually go away when the irritant is removed.

Sometimes burning and itching eyes are due to environmental pollutants that might be eliminated by social action. If secondhand cigarette smoke is annoying, say so. If an industrial plant in the area is polluting, contact the EPA for solutions.

Unprotected eyes can also be burned by the ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun, tanning lamps or arc welding equipment. Like sunburns to the skin, you won't feel pain until hours later, when the eyes and the area around them swell. Near-UV rays can damage your retina. The risk of sunburn to the eyes is very high when sunlight is reflected off water, sand or snow.

Causes of Burning eyes
Chronic dry or burning eyes can be caused by age, some medications, and disease. Itchy, burning eyelids can also result from infection.
Tears bathe the eye, washing out dust and debris and keeping the eye moist. They also contain enzymes that neutralize the microorganisms that colonize the eye. Tears are essential for good eye health.
Allergy is caused by an oversensitive immune system, which leads to a misdirected immune response. The immune system normally protects the body against harmful substances, such as bacteria and viruses. It reacts to substances (allergens) that are generally harmless and in most people do not cause a problem.

Sometimes burning and itching eyes are due to environmental pollutants that might be eliminated by social action. If secondhand cigarette smoke is annoying, say so. If an industrial plant in the area is polluting, contact the EPA for solutions.

Pink eye or viral conjunctivitis causes a red or bloodshot eye and excessive tearing. If you suspect pink eye, remember to wash your hands often, and avoid touching the unaffected eye. The infection will run its course in about 10 days.

During the normal aging process, our bodies and our eyes produce gradually less and less oil. This reduction in oil in the tear film results in quicker evaporation leading to the formation of dry spots on our eyes.

Treatment for Burning eyes

Artificial tears used four-to-six times a day can also relieve symptoms. Avoid over-the-counter eyedrops other than artificial tears because they will eventually make symptoms worse.

Antihistamines in the form of eye-drops or ointments may be prescribed. Cortisone-like eye ointments are not often prescribed. These medications will reduce many types of inflammation, but can make certain infections, such as herpes, worse.

Conserving the tears in your own eyes is another approach to keeping the eyes moist. Tears drain out of the eye through a small canal into the nose (that is why your nose runs when you cry). Your ophthalmologist may close these canals either temporarily or permanently. This closure conserves your own tears and makes artificial tears last longer.

The Possible Causes of Right Side Back Pain

back-pain-right-side

Author: Brue Baker
Back pain is common among adults and it can lead to serious back problems if left untreated. The large majority of upper and lower back pain is caused by muscle strain, and will take care of itself over a period of time with the help of over the counter medications or other natural remedies.

Right side back pain, however, may have other causes, which may warrant a visit to the doctor for a definitive diagnosis and effective treatment plan. It is important to understand what some of the causes of right side back pain might be.

The Possibility of Infection

If you are experiencing pain on the right side of your body that begins as a dull ache and gradually increases in intensity, and is accompanied by other symptoms like fever and nausea, you may have a urinary tract infection. Other symptoms of an infection may include a burning sensation while urinating or a constant pressure in the bladder.

If you suspect that the reason for your right side back pain might be a urinary tract infection, it is a good idea to make an appointment with your doctor. He or she can do a urine test to determine whether you do indeed have an infection, and prescribe medication if necessary.

It Could Be a Hernia

A hernia could be another reason for your right side back pain, especially if the pain is localized to the lower back area. Although a hernia is not a life-threatening condition, it does require treatment by a doctor to avoid possible complications and further pain.

In many cases, the best course of action for a hernia is surgery. The good news is that by repairing the hernia, you will be able to get rid of your right side back pain once and for all.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome is another condition that can cause right side back pain. This type of pain is generally more widespread, and may include other symptoms like bloating, gas, nausea and fatigue. Irritable bowel syndrome can be treated through a high fiber diet and an increased intake of liquids.

Your doctor may also prescribe medications or other types of treatment to care for your irritable bowel syndrome. If you get this potentially painful condition under control through these methods, you should notice a significant reduction in the pain on the right side of your back as well.

There are a number of reasons why you could be experiencing right side back pain. That is why it is a good idea to see your doctor about your back pain so that you can get an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment plan. Good luck on your journey towards health and wellness!

How You Can Treat Heartburn without Drugs

heart-burn-health

Author: Binod
Heartburn is a very common problem in a stressed-out and poorly fed society. For most people medicine is the cure. If you wish to avoid the side effects of drugs, deal with the issue naturally by making a few small changes to your daily regimen.
Heartburn is caused by the buildup of acid which occurs when the stomach is too full. To lower your chances of getting heartburn, take care not to overeat, especially at dinner. Beverages should also be avoided in the evening as they add to an overfull stomach. Carbonated beverages are particularly nasty culprits.
A healthier approach to your diet is to break your daily meals into smaller sizes. Small-portion meals during the day will curb you from overindulging yourself. Also keep your meal times at least a couple of hours away from your bedtime. When you allow your stomach the time to digest, you will get a better night's sleep. When you sleep, rest your upper body in an elevated position with the help of pillows under your shoulders. This will reduce the risk of the digestive acid traveling upward and working against gravity.
Some foods are known to promote acidity. Avoiding such items is prudent for chronic heartburn sufferers. Meals with high acid levels such as coffee, chocolate, wine, and tomatoes are known contributors to indigestions. Foods that contain a lot of fat can also trigger an episode.
Non-citrus fruits, such as mangoes and bananas, and veggies, such as cabbages and potatoes, aid in getting rid of heartburn. If you are not a fruit eater, you can simply eat high-fiber foods like brown rice, or foods that are considered bland like sourdough bread. Eating foods such as these will help sooth the ph level of the stomach, reducing the risk of acid indigestion.
There is a reason why acid reflux is a common feature with people who are overweight. When you carry extra weight around your stomach, it creates pressure on the abdomen, leading to the backup of acid. By taking several pounds off your waist, you can eliminate heartburn.
Late night drinking and heavy smoking can also lead to indigestion and thus promote acid reflux. Alcohol and nicotine soften the digestive muscles that are supposed to stop acid from entering the esophagus. Therefore you need to curb your smoking or drinking habits to effectively control heartburn's aggravating conditions. If you are prone to very severe attacks, then it is best to give up smoking and drinking entirely. A great way to help you get over your smoking addiction is to chew gum. This will help by increasing saliva production and swallowing, both helpful in eliminating acid reflux.
You already know that you should be working out on a regular basis to benefit your overall health. Doing this will help you keep your heartburn at bay. Start working out slowly to improve your digestion.
Now that you have diet and exercise under control, you can add supplements into your daily routine to aid your body in its battle against acid reflux. Ginger, cardamom, and honey are good anti-heartburn agents. You can find these foods in most kitchens. These herbal delights can be added to meals, or eaten as they are.
The health food store is a great source of anti-heartburn supplements. Look for a blend of herbs designed for heartburn and easily downed as a capsule. Licorice can be used to soothe a flare-up, and digestive enzymes can flood your system with enzymes that will facilitate the digestion of your meals. Your battle with heartburn can be assisted by consuming vitamin B, aloe vera juice, or chamomile tea.
A few lifestyle changes have the power to set you free from heartburn symptoms. You will need to stay committed to the changes you make over the long haul, since the process takes time.
Nobody should have to endure the curse of heartburn. Make the necessary changes right away, and you will be on the path toward wellness.

Natural Relaxation - Amazing Discovery for Enjoying Life

living-natural-life
Author: Jimmy Allen
To really enjoy ourselves in life, we often feel that we have to do something special. We dine at a fashionable new restaurant, go to a party or see the latest movie. We seek out fun and new experiences as an attempt to free ourselves from stress, depression, worries and troubles.
Sarah McCrum, a relaxation expert at the Academy of Potential Education in New Zealand said that "soon, we find that these activities only give us temporary relief, an excited feeling that passes and not a long lasting sense of enjoyment that only natural relaxation can bring."
After all this excitement and entertainment, we often feel tired or even exhausted. It is similar to a toy that uses batteries to work. Eventually after playing with the toy, the batteries run out and the toy stops working. This is similar to what happens to us when we rely on our own energy supply-energy from our body and organs, which is limited.
When we rely on our own energy supply, we get tired more easily. We find it difficult to enjoy ourselves and may even feel a sense of depression. To escape stress and recharge our energy, we often sleep, go on vacation or adjust our busy schedule. But these stress relief solutions are only temporary. What we need is to find new ways to constantly get more energy. When we have more energy, life is automatically more enjoyable.

natural-life
Often, when we are doing any activity we are either thinking about what we are doing or thinking about something completely different. We might even start to worry. Frequently, we are unconsciously in a state of tension, and are simply not physically and emotionally at peace. As a result, we stop energy from entering and flowing through our body. And then our meridians aren't open and relaxed, so we get tired and find it difficult to experience joy.
When we learn how to receive and flow with energy, we start to appreciate the world in a completely different way. When we are open, happy and experiencing natural relaxation, we can receive a higher source of life energy - quality energy that is light and fresh, making us more positive and glowing. Everything around us becomes brighter and more peaceful, and our experiences change for the better.
Everything we do is automatically more enjoyable because we have quality energy that gives us motivation and restoration. For example, sleep is more refreshing, music sounds more rhythmic and food tastes better. We are interested in the world around us and we have an inner confidence that we can solve our problems. We don't worry or feel depression and we can enjoy being in the moment.
Perhaps you already knew that you need natural relaxation, but what is it, truly? Give yourself the time and patience to, explore, learn and practice. Give yourself permission to receive greater health, happiness and peace.

How To Effectively Reduce Belly Fat

belly-fat-reduce

Author: Rebecca Welch
Jelly Belly. Love Handles. Dunlap Disease. Whatever you want to call it, the excess fat around your midsection that wiggles and jiggles in all the wrong places just isn't pretty. Not only is belly fat unattractive, it can be downright dangerous to your health. Extra fat carried around your abdomen can increase your risk of heart disease. With so many pills, potions and programs flooding the weight loss industry today, many people are left feeling just plain confused about how to effectively reduce belly fat.

The first thing you must know about how to effectively reduce belly fat is that there is no magic bullet when it comes to weight loss. Reducing body fat levels requires a three pronged approach that doesn't come from popping diet pills or gulping down foul tasting drinks. Belly fat also won't come off by trying to spot reduce only doing sit-ups or crunches. It's just not possible to spot reduce, so don't waste your time.

So, the question remains, how do you effectively reduce belly fat? Here is a safe, practical three pronged approach to get rid of belly fat.

1. Healthy Meals. Notice the word diet isn't part of the equation. That's because the word diet conjures up visions of carrots and celery and not much else. The word diet gives us nightmares of deprivation and hunger, and that's not the image we're looking for with permanent weight loss. Just because the word diet isn't used does not mean you're free to gorge on junk food at will. Healthy meals consist of lean protein, lots of vegetables, whole grains and some fruit. Your should consistantly choose foods that are as close as possible to their natural state.

2. Cardiovascular Exercise. Regular cardiovascular exercise will reduce body fat levels. Where should you start? Wallking is great cardio! Put your shoes on and get moving for at least 30 minutes per day. It doesn't matter how fast or how far you walk in the beginning, the most important point is that you're moving your body aerobically on a regular basis. If you don't enjoy walking then ride a bike, rollerskate, jog, run. Participate in whatever aerobic activity you enjoy.

3. Lift Weights. Yes, you did read that correctly! If you're wondering what lifting weights has to do with effectively reducing belly fat, then read on. Regular weight lifting has several beneficial effects for those folks trying to reduce their body fat levels. Muscles burn extra calories. The more muscle you carry on your frame, the more calories you burn in a 24 hour period which translates into extra fat burning power. Muscles take up about one third less space than fat. Muscles give you the power to carry on your daily activities more effectively and with energy to spare.

Learning how to effectively reduce belly fat isn't a difficult task. The three principle keys to getting rid of your gut rely on diet, cardiovascular exercise and weight lifting on a regular basis. Remember, you didn't sprout belly fat overnight and you can't get rid of belly fat in a day, but you can reduce belly fat if you're willing to put forth a bit of
effort.

How to Cure White Spots on Skin

face-white-spot
Author: Aisha Ahmed
The medical term for white spots on skin is vitiligo or leucoderma. It's a skin disease in which the skin loses its color due to some genetic or environmental causes. The white spots appear as patches of white skin without pigment.
White spots on skin are common in people who suffer from autoimmune diseases. One of these diseases is adrenocortical insufficiency. The adrenal gland is responsible for producing a hormone called corticosteroid. This disease occurs when there is a deficiency of this hormone in our body. Because of this reason the most common treatment as suggested by doctors for vitiligo is corticosteroid cream.
Another treatment for the cure of white spots on skin is exposure to sunlight for long durations of time or artificial phototherapy. Cells that are responsible for pigmentation become active when the skin if exposed to light.
Melanocytes are cells located in the skin that cause pigmentation. A recent advancement in the medical science has made it possible to transplant these cells from some other part of the body to the affected skin area. As a result of this transplantation vitiligo or white spots on skin can be completely cured.
Cosmetics can also be used to cover up the white spots. However, a medical treatment should be employed to control the disease as it may become widespread and uncontrollable. It should also be known that since this disease is inherited, it cannot be prevented. Because of this reason, a good and effective treatment is required in order to avoid psychological effects, frustration and embarrassment.
There are some other skin conditions or disorders in which the skin loses its color and becomes either of lighter or darker shade. Before using any of the treatments for vitiligo it is better to consult a dermatologist and confirm the symptoms.
Most of the time only topical treatments are suggested by doctors for skin disorders including vitiligo, acne and eczema. However, some oral pills may also be prescribed if the condition is severe.

How To Lose Face Fat

Here is a fact that you should take note of. What do you look at first when you meet somebody? You look at their face first right? For example you meet up with old friends, colleagues, your neighbor or new friends, most of the time you will focus your attention on their faces first.

The point is that the face is very important and that is also why so many people are looking for ways to lose face fat. Any weight loss will show on the face first and when people look at your face, they will straight away notice changes. Plus, influences from the media and the entertaining world also create an impact on how a pretty or sexy face should look like. If you just would flip through the magazines, the faces of the models are all very slim and well defined with high cheekbones, sharp nose and a lean face.

Well, since so many people is looking for the answer to lose fat in their faces, here is a couple of tips on how to lose face fat. Before we move on to that, lets understand that there is no such thing a spot reduction. This means that if you are looking at a miracle pill or gadget that can get your cheeks down, you will be disappointed.

If you want to lose face fat, you have to begin with losing weight. This means losing excess water retention and also losing body fat. Usually, when a person loses weight, it is very noticeable that his face also gets sharper and leaner. Usually the face will slim down first because excess water is gone. Follow these simple steps to lose weight and you will get a lean, healthy and toned face.

Lose Face Fat Step 1: Drink lots of water.

You have to drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Drink at least nine 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Drink more than that if you are an active person and always exposed to the sun. The thing is our body has a natural protective system. When you do not drink enough water, the body will naturally think that you are stranded in a dessert and have not enough water. As a result, it will store as much water as it can to keep you living and there is when you will get bloated. Vice versa, if you drink enough water, the body will flush out all the unnecessary water because it knows that the system has enough water. Stick to plain water. Sodas and sugared drink would not help because they contain sugar and will lead to bloating too.

Lose Face Fat Step 2: Do not forget your fruits and vegetables!

Stay natural and eat at least three servings of fruits and three servings of vegetables every day. This will not only fill you up with less calories and help you stay way from junk food, fruits and vegetables also contains water that can help you stay hydrated. Plus, they are filled with fiber that gives many health benefits. Make your self a healthy fruit salad for snack instead of a chocolate bar. Choose your fruits carefully though; control the amount of bananas, grapes and pineapples because they are high in fructose. Go for apples, oranges, all sorts of berries and grapefruit because they are low GI carbs and they packed full with anti oxidants.

Lose Face Fat Step 3: Reduce the alcohol

It does not matter what alcohol you drink. Wine, brandy or beer, alcohol is still alcohol. Alcohol can cause a good amount of bloating in the body because it really dehydrates the body. It can also add inches in you belly and under your chin because one gram of alcohol contains seven calories! That is almost like drinking fat! A five ounce glass of wine has 100 calories, that means a little drinking a little bit can add inches in your waist.

Lose Face Fat Step 4: Bump up the calcium

A lot of studies have proven that taking at least 1200 milligrams of calcium from dairy if possible daily can help in fat loss. There is also a study that showed that half of the females in that study experienced reduced symptoms of PMS including water retention after consuming 1200 milligrams of calcium. So, do not eliminate dairy in your diet, have some in moderation.

Lose Face Fat Step 5: Calories out more than calories in.

This is the golden rule of fat loss. In order to lose weight, you have burn more calories than you consume. So, the easy and healthy way to do this is to burn 250 calories and reduce 250 calories from your food intake. The reason to reduce 500 calories a day is because we need to hit a reduction of 3500 calories a week and that will result to healthy recommended weight loss of one pound of body fat per week.
To burn 250 calories, just go for a simple walk or jog for 30 to 40 minutes. To reduce 250 calories, just eliminate all the junk food and excess fatty foods from your diet right now and I am sure you can reduce 250 calories. Eat healthy and eat with a mind to feed your muscles and body with good fuel!

Lose Face Fat Step 6: Control Your Salt Intake

Salt is another culprit of water retention. That is why when you snack with junk food that is high in sodium, you will feel every thirsty and your face will bloat up the next day. Avoid foods like pizza, burgers, junk food, chips and other similar foods because they are loaded with salt! When eating out, be careful of the gravy, some gravy use a lot of salt. Eat home and prepare your own food when ever possible! Sprinkle your salt, do not use your spoon, that way you can really control the amount of salt that goes into your food!

Lose Face Fat Step 7: Go For Weight Training

You have to weight train to maintain and increase lean muscle tissue. With more muscles packed in your body, your metabolism will increase and you can burn more calories and fat! Plus, with more muscles in your body, you can burn more calories while you do your cardio and even while rest because muscles are living tissues and require calories to function and survive! For optimum fat loss results and to lose fat on your face, you have to diet, do your cardio and also weight train.

So, if you want to lose fat on your face, the main objective is to lose weight. By losing body fat, you will look much leaner and have a much more cut features because fat and water under the skin is reduced.

So follow these simple steps and get on a fat loss program now. Mark my words; if you manage to lose body fat until your desired body fat, your face will look much leaner and thinner. Even your nose will look sharper!

How You Can Cure Bad Breath From Stomach Problems

mouth-bad-breath
Author: Kelvin Ho
Many people are actually surprised to learn that bad breath doesn't always stem from the mouth itself but is caused by digestive disorders and other such issues. Conditions such as acid reflux disease, an obstructed bowel, diverticulitis, and just plain indigestion can cause chronic halitosis. But how are these conditions connected, and better yet, how can you cure bad breath from stomach problems?

Most stomach and digestive conditions that cause bad breath do so because of bacteria and harmful enzymes that get absorbed into the system and then released through the breath. In the case of acid reflux disease, those stomach acids can work their way all the back up into the throat and then are expelled in the breath.

In order to cure bad breath from stomach problems you need to understand what condition you have that's causing the problem and then address is appropriately. For instance, if it's acid reflux you need to make adjustments to your diet or get some medication to calm those stomach acids. You can't cure bad breath from stomach problems by just covering it up with gum or mints; once that smell from these products wear off, the bad breath is still present. If you have chronic indigestion you may want to see your doctor to get diagnosed correctly.

Sometimes just understanding the problem doesn't necessarily mean that you can correct it that easily, especially if it's a condition that you're trying to treat and still have not quite fixed. In order to cure bad breath from stomach problems without being able to fix those problems, you need to make sure that you're following a good program of proper oral hygiene. Never neglect brushing and flossing, and of course rinsing afterwards.

You might not be able to cure bad breath from stomach problems by doing this, but you can make sure that it's not any worse. Keep yourself adequately hydrated at all times so that you can neutralize stomach acids and help your mouth keep itself clean. Saliva is a great cleanser for the mouth and when your mouth is dry, your breath is going to be worse.

There is no shame in asking your doctor for help in being able to cure bad breath from stomach problems. He or she may have seen this type of problem brought on by your condition before and may be able to recommend a permanent solution.
